A PS4 Listing Has Been Spotted for God of War Sons of Sparta

A PlayStation database tracker has pointed to a possible PS4 version of God of War Sons of Sparta, though Sony has not announced one.

A new entry spotted by PlayStation database tracker PlayStation Game Size is pointing players back toward the PlayStation 4 — and the game in question is an unusual one: God of War Sons of Sparta.

The tracker posted a simple PS4 label for the game on November 7. That is not an announcement from Sony, a store page, or a release date, so it is best read as a clue from PlayStation’s backend rather than a promise. But it is enough to raise a fascinating possibility: Sony could be preparing a version of its recently released first-party God of War spin-off for the generation it has spent years moving beyond.

PlayStation announced Sons of Sparta in February as a PS5 release. Developed by Mega Cat Studios with Santa Monica Studio, it is a 2D action platformer about a young Kratos training alongside Deimos. Its pixel-art approach makes the possible PS4 connection less surprising technically than it would be for a giant cinematic blockbuster.

What would still be striking is the timing. Sons of Sparta arrived as a new first-party game in 2026 and was presented as a PS5 title. A later PS4 version would reverse the usual direction of travel, especially after a generation in which PlayStation has been steadily leaving cross-generation launches behind.

There are practical reasons Sony might do it: a 2D game does not need the hardware showcase of a modern open-world release, and PS4 still has a vast potential audience. None of that confirms the listing, though. Backend discoveries can reflect testing, placeholders, regional plans, or a release that never happens.

For now, the interesting part is the mismatch between the lead and the platform. If the listing proves real, a brand-new PlayStation Studios game could be walking back onto the previous console generation — a rare move this late in the cycle.

PlayStation has not announced a PS4 version. This article will be updated if it does.
