Assassin’s Creed Hexe Reportedly Slips Toward 2028

A report says Assassin’s Creed Hexe has been delayed internally, potentially moving Ubisoft’s next mainline entry to 2028.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe has been one of Ubisoft’s most deliberately mysterious projects: a short reveal, a promise of a darker historical setting, and then a long stretch in which the questions have outnumbered the answers. A new report suggests that wait may be longer still.

Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reports that sources told the outlet in October that Hexe had run into development issues and been internally delayed by another year. If that account is accurate, the next mainline Assassin’s Creed could now land in 2028.

That is a report, not a date Ubisoft has announced. The publisher has never committed Hexe to a release window, and its own update last week struck a far more cautious note: Ubisoft said it was making steady progress on the darker Assassin’s Creed experience, while acknowledging there was still work ahead. Its next major update is planned for 2027.

So there are two things to hold at once. Ubisoft is publicly saying Hexe remains in development; Henderson’s report says the project’s internal timetable may have moved. Neither tells us when players will actually get their first proper look at the game, much less when it will ship.

That uncertainty is part of why this rumour has travelled so quickly. Hexe was announced alongside Assassin’s Creed Red back in 2022, and Red eventually emerged as Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Hexe is still the empty space on the series’ calendar: a game with a striking promise, but very few firm details.

Until Ubisoft says more, a 2028 launch should be treated as a possible consequence of the reported delay, rather than a confirmed plan. For now, the one official marker is the studio’s promise to share a major update next year.
