Cliff Bleszinski says he is “not surprised” that his name does not appear in the credits for Gears of War: E-Day. The original trilogy’s lead game designer was responding to a post about the new game’s credits, not claiming he worked on the 2026 release.
“Not surprised,” Bleszinski wrote in the post shared Friday. When a reply argued that one person does not make a game alone, he pushed back on that reading: “Did I say I did? I say I was upset? I said not surprised. Oh I have feelings too.”
That distinction matters. Bleszinski is not saying he made E-Day, nor does he say he should have received a development credit. He is reacting to the fact that a new entry in the series he helped shape does not name him in its credits.
The published credit record lists more than 2,500 people who worked on the new game, including The Coalition’s current studio leadership and development teams. Bleszinski’s name is not among them. The Coalition developed Gears of War: E-Day, which launched October 6 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Bleszinski had a very different role in the series’ early years. He served as lead game designer on the original Gears of War trilogy at Epic Games, helping establish the cover shooter’s tone, combat, and gruffly memorable cast. That history makes the omission a little loaded, even if the current game’s credits are meant to recognize the people who made this installment.
Xbox’s official launch coverage identifies The Coalition as the studio behind E-Day. The game’s published credit listing likewise focuses on the teams that built the new release.
So this is not a credits dispute. It is a brief, human note from a creator watching a franchise he helped launch keep moving without him.
