Faye’s next journey will have to wait a little longer. Santa Monica Studio has moved God of War Laufey to 20 May 2027, a little over three months after the PS5 adventure’s original 16 February release date.
The studio announced the delay on 4 November, explaining that it wants more time to finish the game and bring it up to the standard it is aiming for. More updates are promised, though the statement does not set a date for the next one.
That is a 93-day wait for a game taking a rather unusual route through a familiar family’s story. Its lead is Laufey, better known as Faye: Kratos’ wife, Atreus’ mother, and a warrior with an adventure of her own after death.
According to the official game overview, she awakens in the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods. Gods from multiple mythologies are competing for power there, and the plans Faye left behind to protect her family are under threat.
A Different God Of War
The setting puts her story alongside the beginning of Kratos and Atreus’ journey to scatter her ashes. Faye, meanwhile, is trying to find a way home from a place death was supposed to have made final.
The fighting brings together the close, brutal encounters of modern God of War and the greater mobility associated with the Greek games. Faye gets a new sword and Jötnar magic that can tear at an opponent’s soul, opening up combinations of attacks.
She also has company. Rue is a set of enchanted ribbons responsible for guarding her sword, while Phranque is a cosmic cube determined to protect the Everywhen. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye, with Jack Quaid playing Phranque and Perlina Lau as Rue.
For now, the extra wait is the confirmed change. Santa Monica is using that time for the finishing touches, with God of War Laufey now scheduled for PS5 on 20 May 2027.
