NIKKE PC Launcher Incident Tracker: What We Know, What Changed, and What Remains

A rolling tracker for the NIKKE PC launcher incident, covering the confirmed breach, player cleanup steps, and the questions Level Infinite has yet to answer.

Last updated: November 8, 2026. This is Bocah5Racun’s rolling tracker for the GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE PC launcher incident. We will update this page when a verified development changes what players need to know.

The story began with a launcher update no player should ever have had to worry about. Level Infinite said someone may have tampered with files used by its PC launcher. The company then released an update and cleanup instructions. Since then, security researchers have been working out what those altered files could have done on affected PCs.

What Happened

BleepingComputer found that the altered launcher files could download and run unwanted software. The outlet reported that it could let an attacker run commands on a PC, look through files, take screenshots, and collect information saved in a browser.

Researchers also found signs that one suspicious file, platform_experience_helper.dll, could remain after the launcher was closed. That is why this became more than a bad game update: players may have needed to check their wider PC, not simply reinstall the launcher.

The Timeline So Far

  • September 27: Researchers say altered files appeared on the launcher’s download server.
  • Late October: The earliest reported signs of the unwanted software appear in player evidence.
  • November 3–4: Level Infinite replaced launcher files and released a client update.
  • November 5: The publisher issued PC cleanup instructions and said the mobile game was not affected.
  • Now: Independent testing is still checking what the launcher may have installed and whether the remaining risks have been fixed.

Why Players Are Questioning the Launcher

As the tracker continues, the frustration has grown beyond the cleanup itself. A widely shared post among Japanese NIKKE players puts a simple question: if the game receives frequent updates while the launcher gets few visible improvements, why does the PC version need a separate launcher at all?

The post lays out three things players now want to see: a launcher that is properly funded and maintained as its own product, a way to start the NIKKE client directly, or distribution through Steam and other storefronts. Those changes would not happen overnight, but the reaction shows how much trust an extra layer of software can lose when it becomes the point of failure.

For many players, another status update will not be enough. They want a PC route that feels simpler, safer, and clearly owned by a team whose job is to keep it that way.

What Players Should Do

Use the updated official launcher check, then run a full scan with Malwarebytes. Level Infinite says to close your browsers before the official check starts. If Malwarebytes finds anything suspicious, change important passwords from a device you know has not run the launcher. Then check the devices still signed in to your email, gaming, banking, and password-manager accounts.

Our practical NIKKE launcher guide explains those steps in more detail. Readers who want the full technical record can also check the public research repository.

What Remains Unresolved

Level Infinite has not publicly explained how the altered files reached its download server, how many PCs received the unwanted software, or whether every leftover file has been removed. The launcher update was an important first step. Players are still waiting for the full picture.

An Interim Option for PC Players

Researcher whyKusanagi recommends blocking tbs_browser.exe, the launcher’s built-in browser, in Windows Firewall as an interim safeguard for players who still use the PC client. Their guidance says this can block that component’s outbound connections while the game can still sign in and run. The researcher’s response kit on GitHub describes blocking as a way to buy time while players assess their systems.
