Anyone who has opened the PC launcher for Goddess of Victory: NIKKE since the affected period began on 27 September is being asked to check their computer and accounts, following a security incident involving altered launcher files.
Publisher Level Infinite has released a new incident timeline and recovery instructions, dated 5 November. The notice says malicious software could have run when the launcher started, and acknowledges possible consequences for services outside the game, including players’ financial assets.
The dates matter here. A web address used by the service was hijacked on 27 September, and four launcher files were changed that day to connect to it. The publisher places the start of malware distribution later, on 30 October. Its request for security checks covers the longer period.
The team says it discovered the abnormal files on 4 November. Three were replaced first, followed by an update to the cached copy of the remaining file on its download network. It is continuing to investigate both the route of the attack and the extent of its effects.
What Players Are Being Asked To Do
Level Infinite has added a malware detection and removal function to the official PC client. Its instructions tell players to close all running browsers first; a prompt then appears if the check detects malicious software. The notice also directs people who no longer have the launcher, or want to inspect their PC manually, to separate guidance.
The account advice goes beyond a NIKKE password reset. The publisher recommends changing passwords for accounts used on the affected computer, using an unaffected device or waiting until that PC’s security check is complete. Stored access keys for other services should also be replaced.
Players who notice account problems or suffer financial losses are asked to contact official customer support, which says reports will be examined individually. The announcement does not put a number on affected users or confirmed losses.
Alongside its apology, Level Infinite has promised stronger monitoring, checks for altered external files and a review of the permissions used by launcher features. For players returning to NIKKE, the immediate request is to check the computer and the accounts used on it.
