Switch 2 Sales Hit 26.35 Million, Closing In On Nintendo 64’s Lifetime Total

Nintendo’s latest figures put Switch 2 at roughly 80% of Nintendo 64’s lifetime sales, while Mario Kart World reaches 16.48 million copies.

Nintendo Switch 2 has reached 26.35 million consoles sold worldwide, putting it roughly four-fifths of the way towards the Nintendo 64’s entire lifetime total.

The new figure covers sales up to 30 September 2026, according to Nintendo’s updated investor-relations figures. That leaves Switch 2 around 6.58 million units behind the Nintendo 64’s 32.93 million. It’s already comfortably ahead of the GameCube’s 21.74 million and the Wii U’s 13.56 million.

Those are lifetime comparisons, rather than a comparison of how quickly each console sold. Still, they give the latest number a little more meaning than another big total on a spreadsheet.

Switch 2 added 2.67 million units since Nintendo’s June figure of 23.68 million. Its software total now stands at 73.21 million copies, while the original Switch continues to sell alongside it: that system has reached 157.20 million consoles and more than 1.59 billion games.

Mario Kart World remains the runaway leader on Nintendo’s Switch 2 software chart, with 16.48 million copies. That works out to roughly 63 copies for every 100 consoles sold. Nintendo includes games bundled with hardware in these totals, so that ratio doesn’t mean nearly two-thirds of owners bought the game separately.

Donkey Kong Bananza follows at 5.05 million. Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Pokémon Pokopia each stand at 4.04 million, although Nintendo’s Pokopia figure only covers sales outside Japan, where it publishes the game.

The newer names are also making their mark: Splatoon Raiders has reached 2.42 million, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave 1.34 million, and Star Fox 1.17 million.

These figures stop at the end of September, so they won’t tell us how Nintendo’s November releases perform. For now, Switch 2’s next historical hardware milestone is clear: another 6.58 million units would put it level with the Nintendo 64.
