The latest GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE launcher update was meant to draw a line under a frightening security incident. For PC players, though, the harder question now is what may have been left behind by the earlier compromise.
A detailed community investigation calls that possibility NIKKE launcher persistence. It traces a suspected remote-control agent delivered through altered launcher files, then follows the trail to a DLL that could remain available after the launcher itself had been closed.
On the affected PC described in the report, that DLL was seen inside Steam’s web helper, Alt1 Toolkit, and Jagex Launcher. The report’s concern is that the malicious component used a Windows feature associated with Chrome, giving it a route into other software that called on the same component. A launcher problem, in other words, could linger in the background of the apps a player opens next.
That is why the cleanup is more than a box to tick before getting back to the game. Level Infinite’s guidance says the updated PC client checks for the malware and can remove related files and registry entries. Its instructions also tell players to close their browsers before running the check. The mobile game was not affected.
If you used the PC launcher during the affected period, start with our earlier NIKKE launcher checklist. Run the official check, then run a full scan with Malwarebytes. If anything turns up, change important passwords from a known-clean device and contact support if you may have lost accounts or data.
The open question is no longer only how the launcher was compromised. It is how confidently players can close the door on what it may have installed. Until Level Infinite explains the remaining gaps, that question is going to hang over every “all clear” message.
