If you’re clearing space for Grand Theft Auto VI, Xbox’s latest catalog entry gives you a bigger target: about 225.34GB. That’s the maximum download figure currently attached to the game in Microsoft’s public product catalog, ahead of next week’s preload window.
For players in the US, that window actually opens on the evening of November 9. Rockstar sets the Xbox start time at midnight GMT on November 10, which converts to 7 p.m. Eastern or 4 p.m. Pacific the previous day. You can get the download going well before launch, provided there’s enough room on the console.
A community post crediting dataminer Cokymoky brought attention to the size. A direct check of Microsoft’s listing returns 225,336,918,016 bytes as the maximum download size for the global Xbox package. The product record was last modified on November 6 at 8:29 p.m. GMT, though that timestamp covers the listing as a whole.
You might also see that download described as 209.86 GiB. There’s no extra installation step hiding in the difference: 225.34GB and 209.86 GiB are two ways of measuring the same data. The figures don’t show the game expanding from one size into the other.
Rockstar’s official preload FAQ still gives a lower number. The page, last updated November 3, says players need up to 212GB depending on their device. Microsoft’s download entry is roughly 13.34GB higher, and Rockstar hasn’t clarified that difference on the support page.
For now, planning around the larger Xbox figure gives you more breathing room. The catalog’s installed-size field is zero, so it doesn’t supply a separate final installation requirement. It also doesn’t tell us anything new about the PS5 package.
To have the Xbox preload arrive automatically, Rockstar says to enable automatic updates and leave the console on or in Sleep mode. PS5 owners get a different schedule: midnight in their local time zone on November 10.
Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That leaves a little time to decide which games are temporarily giving up their spot on the SSD.
