Games industry leaker AlexandreNGamr says that a big announcement about a new game in the Metro first-person-shooter series is coming next week. The claim, which was made in a post to the user’s personal X/Twitter account, has since been corroborated by Nate The Hate.
We’ve known about a new mainline game in the Metro franchise since 2022, when Dmitry Glukhovsky, who writes the fictional novel series that the games are based on, stated he was collaborating with 4A Games on a new Metro game. 4A Games has since confirmed that a game is in the works. No other official details have been released.
Glukhovsky previously posted an key art from Metro Exodus to his Instagram account, adding the letters ‘TBC’ to the bottom (standing for ‘To Be Continued’). Many believe that this suggests the next Metro game will continue to follow series’ protagonist Artyom rather than explore Metro‘s post-apocalyptic, supernatural world from another character’s perspective.
The most recent mainline game in the series was 2019’s Metro Exodus, which saw Artyom finally leave the series’ iconic underground tunnels and roadways and allow for prolonged exploration of the surface world for the first time.
