Throw a little Devil May Cry and Mario Kart in the mix while you’re at it.

It’s trailers like this one for dogfight roguelike Delivery Must Complete that make me happy we have indie game devs. Born from developer Yoyoyollie’s frustration with the long wait for ACE COMBAT 8, what began as a simple project to sate their longing has turned into the flashy, boom-boom bedlam you see below.

Delivery May Complete’s official Steam app page calls the game “Devil May Cry meets Ace Combat”, which doesn’t quite convey the breakneck-ness of it all. To me, all the wonton weaving and obscene destruction conjures after-school hours spent playing Burnout 3, where the whole point was to fuck shit up. There are roguelike elements in there, too, and the trailer offers a glimpse at some sort of inventory management system where items can be unlocked by completing tasks.

Another point: did you know you can parry missiles in this game? Time your dash just right to stylishly thread your way past explosive barrages. That’s the kind of forward-thinking backwards-logic that entire games were built around back in the wild and crazy golden days of the arcade.

Check the game out on Steam.
